My parents are from Iowa, and I was born in St. Louis. I grew up in California, where we were outside all the time, and I have also lived in Wyoming, Colorado, and South Dakota. As a geologist, I’m always ready for field studies in all kinds of weather. I’m a river rat, born at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. I’ve spent time on and along the Colorado, Green, Platte, Snake, Mississippi, Volga, and Turkey Rivers. I’m committed to the mission of TAKO because I think you can learn (almost) everything you need to know by going outside and paying attention to what you see there.
During the past couple of years, I have earned my private pilot's license, raced in a cross-country air race, and I own a plane. I'm currently working on my instrument rating.
